The Tunisia international is hopeful the Catalans can agree a deal with his current club and has little doubt he is ready for the step up
Monaco defender Aymen Abdennour is confident he has what it takes to succeed at Barcelona and has set his sights on a move to Camp Nou.
The 25-year-old has caught the attention of a number of big clubs with his fine performances in 2014-15, with Juventus, AC Milan and Barca all said to be interested in signing him.
The Catalans are believed to be leading the race to sign Abdennour, although they would not be able to register the centre-back until January due to their transfer ban, and he has little doubt he is ready to make an impact at Camp Nou.
“I am ready to play for Barcelona. I am very competitive and I think I have the characteristics to succeed,” the defender told Sport.
“I would love to join a big club and Barcelona are just that. Barcelona are the best team in the world and I would love to play for them, but the decision is not mine. It depends on Monaco.
“I do not know whether Barcelona have approached Monaco, but I hope an agreement will be reached. I want to join Barcelona, but it’s up to the president. Both clubs will have to reach an agreement.
“I will only leave Monaco for a club that plays Champions League football. The Monaco president has told me he will only sell to a big club. I am not going anywhere unless a big club comes in.”
Abdennour has a contract with the Ligue 1 outfit until June 2019.
